Nadiya Team Attends Insightful Event on Investigating Core International Crimes with the Metropolitan Police
On the 11th of March, members of the Nadiya team went on a journey to London to participate in "An Introduction to the Investigation of Core International Crimes from a UK Policing Perspective." This insightful event, spanning over 7 hours, proved to be an invaluable opportunity for the team to deepen their understanding of investigating core international crimes and explore avenues for collaboration with law enforcement agencies.
The event delved into various aspects of investigating war crimes, with a focus on trauma-informed interview techniques and victim support. Participants engaged in discussions on enhancing cognitive interviewing methods and explored strategies for providing effective support to victims of such crimes within the UK jurisdiction.
Nadiya's co-founder, Derek, became the subject of a test interview. Derek's impeccable memory and attention to detail captivated the audience as he responded to questions about his morning trip to the event venue, detailing the layout of the area and the people around him. His ability to recall intricate details left everyone in awe and served as a testament to the importance of thorough interview techniques, which one of the Detective Constables of the MET Police presented to us.
Furthermore, the event provided an excellent platform for Nadiya to connect with esteemed partners such as The Clooney Foundation and The British Red Cross. The team also seized the opportunity to establish new relationships with other organisations focused on crimes-related issues, paving the way for future collaborations.
Nadiya’s broad network will allow us to share the information about the opportunity to give evidence to the police among the refugees. We are currently searching for the place in London to invite the victims to and provide a safe environment for them to be interviewed. The plan is to involve psychologists too, in order to make sure that refugees get the necessary support after giving the evidence.
Reflecting on the experience, members of the Nadiya team expressed their gratitude for the invaluable insights gained and the opportunity to network with key stakeholders in the field. As we return to Milton Keynes, energised and inspired, the team is more determined than ever to contribute to improving the UK's response to victims, witnesses, and suspects of core international crimes.
